This course is designed for pre-hospital and initial care of a burn patient. We review the initial care and trauma management (ABCDE), stabilization and transfer, criteria for referral to a burn center, and disaster management. This includes when to intubate and basic fluid resuscitation. The course consists of lecture, case study review, simulation practice on mannequins, and written testing along with simulation testing. Students must pass the written exam with an 80% and the practical exam with a 3/5. ABLS certification is valid for 4 years.

The Educational Services Building is down the street from the hospital itself, across from Kirk’s Steakburgers. Parking is limited, we encourage students to arrive early.
Price: $325.00 for non-physicians and $390.00 for physicians (not including online transaction fees). The fee covers the tuition, online manual, testing, and continuing education credits. Snacks and lunch will be provided. Last day to register is August 14, 2026. A full refund will only be issued within one week of registration, or in the unlikely event of course cancellation. Once you are confirmed and course materials are sent out (sent via email one week after registration), only a partial refund of 50% will be issued. No refunds will be issued after August 14, 2025.
Once registered, you will receive an email with an e-version of the ABLS manual. Please allow ample time to study. All participants must ALSO register with the American Burn Association (ABA) prior to the start of the class. Instructions to register with the ABA will be provided in the welcome email upon registration.
CEs: The American Burn Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission (ANCC) on Accreditation. The ABA designates this continuing education activity for 7.0 continuing education credit hours. The American Burn Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (AACME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The American Burn Association designates this educational activity for 7.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). The Santa Clara County Emergency Medical Services Agency (43-0001) designates 7.0 CEs for prehospital providers: paramedics, EMT-I, and EMT-II.
