Providing Essentials for Unhoused Patients

Unhoused patients often lack basic essentials, which is vital in helping them manage their health. In response to this need, Valley Health Foundation helped secure a District 3 URJGENT grant through the Office of Santa Clara County Supervisor Otto Lee to provide unhoused patients with weather-appropriate clothing and essentials.

This funding continues to support unhoused patients receiving care throughout the County’s public hospitals and clinics. During this hot summer, many have requested water bottles, tarps and tents for shade, shorts, t-shirts, and hats to stay cool.

It also helps unhoused patients in accessing items that can help them in their recovery. “The shoes and compression socks that we received for one of our unhoused veterans was key to his ongoing recovery.” Elise Nghiem, Health Center Manager at the SCVH Wound Clinic, shared. “The compression stockings are recommended for patients to wear after their wounds are healed and helps prevent reoccurrence of open wounds. Simple items mean so much.”

Throughout the year, this funding helps to make sure that all patients have access to the items they need to maintain their health.

VHF’s work to secure grants to support our public healthcare system and community health programs is made possible by our donors. When you give, you help to support, innovate, and advocate better health for all –  thank you!
