Basketball Court Refurbished for Staff and Patients

Valley Health Foundation partners with healthcare staff to identify opportunities to improve the care experience for staff and patients in big and small ways.

VHF was excited to support a recent effort spearheaded by Patricia Brady and her Medical Social Workers team to renovate an old basketball court on the SCVMC campus. The court is located by the Barbara Arons Pavilion and open to all staff and patients.

Pat first noticed the court during her walking meetings and that it was being used by staff during lunch. The court was in dire need of repairs. She reached out to VHF about her plans to beautify the court and make it a more welcoming space for staff and patients.

VHF was able to help to support this project and help give the court a fresh new look for everyone who uses it! The backboard now features a beautiful sun, painted by Melissa Clark-White, Lead Medical Social Worker at SCVMC, with help from her dog Valkyrie. There is also a brand new hoop.

Thanks to the generosity of VHF donors, this is just one example of the many projects VHF supports to help make spaces more welcoming and accessible for patients and staff throughout the healthcare system. At SCVMC, VHF recently supported a new wheelchair accessible scale that is available to everyone in the community who is unable to use a standing scale due to injury. At O’Connor, VHF helped to support the new NICU mural to provide comfort and hope to families during a difficult time. VHF has also supported the beautification of the St. Louise Regional Hospital entrance, replacing unruly vines with beautiful flowers to welcome patients.
