Breakthrough Silicon Valley and Medical Career Exploration for Local High School Students

Valley Health Foundation warmly welcomed students from Breakthrough Silicon Valley to a career exploration day with physicians and staff at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center on July 17, 2024.

A group of students from local high schools met with these physicians to gain “firsthand” insight into a career in medicine. This unique experience included hands-on activities such as using a stethoscope to listen to heart sounds and take a blood pressure, adding fluid to an IV line in a simulation setting, and the application of basic life support skills on infant and child-sized mannequins.

This is the second year that VHF has partnered with SCVMC physicians and Breakthrough Silicon Valley to host a career exploration day. We support their mission to elevate first generation communities through education. We hope this experience sparks an interest in medicine among these young adults and helps to build a pipeline to the next generation of physicians and medical professionals in Santa Clara County! We thank physicians and staff at SCVMC (hospital and clinics) who generously volunteered their time to inspire and educate these students.
